God's Mercy Orphanage Centre
God’s Mercy Orphanage Centre was founded in 2009 by Robbinah Hakiza. Born and Raised in a Christian family in south Western Uganda Kisoro District, Robbinah believes her personal initiative to begin GMOC is a CALLING FROM GOD. When she was growing up she witnessed firsthand how girls her age were denied the right to attend school, how women suffered domestic violence yet they labored hard to put food on the table. Robbinah was lucky that her parents were Christians and knew that all Children were a gift from God and so should be treated equally. Together with all her six siblings who are all girls, Robbinah went through formal Education. Throughout her Education journey to getting formal employment and latter to starting her own family, memories of the suffering girls and women in her community never left her. Many a times she reminded her sisters how Lucky they were to have escaped the primitive practices in their community of segregating against children, and assured them that one day she will go back to her fumbira community and initiate a platform where she could advocate for Gender equality . By then she did not know how that would be possible, but she simply had a Vision and found strength in the scripture-Habakkuk 2:2-3 and the Lord answered me and said; write the vision and make it plain upon tables that he may run that who reads it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak and not Lie; though it Tarries wait for it because it will surely come, it will not delay. (KJV).
In February 2009,Robbinah believed it was time to go and serve her community . She resigned her formal employment as an Accounts Assistant in a coffee processing company in the Capital City of Uganda Kampala and used her savings to begin God’s Mercy Orphanage Centre. She reasoned that in order to get a platform where she could talk to communities about the dangers of child gender and women discrimination, she needed to speak with Action. She had to help girls go to school. As she moved from village to village advocating for Education of a girl child, she selected some vulnerable children-girls and enrolled them in school. Along the way she was joined by her sister Dorothy Mbonimpa and in 2012 God’s Mercy Orphanage Centre was Fully registered as a Community Based Organization.(CBO). Over the years the two sisters Robbinah and Dorothy have seen the scripture Habakkuk 2:2-3 come to pass.
